TDP offices attacked: Chandrababu Naidu blames ruling YSRCP, calls for statewide bandh

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has issued a call for a statewide Bandh in Andhra Pradesh on October 20 after the party’s head office in Guntur was vandalised by a mob on Tuesday.

Addressing the media, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu termed it a “black day”. He further alleged that the ruling YSRCP government “colluded” with the police to shield the miscreants who vandalised party offices and attacked TDP workers.

“The DGP (Director General of Police) office is a few hundred meters away [from the TDP office that was vandalised], the CM’s house is nearby, still, they attacked. I spoke to the Governor and Union Home Minister, both have responded,” said Chandrababu Naidu.

Meanwhile, the ruling YSRCP has denied any involvement in the attacks on TDP offices. Sources in the YSRCP said the attacks could have been triggered by TDP spokesperson Pattabhi Ram’s use of “derogatory language” against CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during a press conference on Tuesday.

Asked to respond, Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Gautam D Sawang told India Today, “Strict action will be taken on those making provocative speeches. Nobody should take the law into their hands, action will be taken on those who do so. The police requests citizens to not get provoked and stay calm.”
